The Journey
My Story
Music is my world.
A Gradual Love
My name is Tanish Sonawane, and I am an independent singer, musician, and music creator from Shahapur, Maharashtra, India. I was born on August 6, 2006, in Bhiwandi, and currently reside in Shahapur.
While many artists describe a single defining moment when they fell in love with music, my journey was much more gradual. Music slowly entered my life and eventually became my entire world. I wasn't born as a trained singer, nor did I grow up believing I would become a musician. I was just an ordinary person who enjoyed music like everyone else.
The Keyboard Gateway
Everything started because of my father. When I was around 10 or 11 years old, he gifted me a small keyboard synthesizer. It may have looked like a simple gift, but it completely changed my life without me even realizing it. He used to play songs on it and taught me how to play a few melodies. That was my first real interaction with music.
That keyboard became my doorway into an entirely new world. I became curious. I started exploring sounds, pressing random keys, and slowly understanding that every note carried its own emotion. I learned that the keyboard had notes like C, D, E, F, G, A, and B, but I wasn't learning music theory at the time — I was simply enjoying the process.
I began learning songs on YouTube, especially Marathi songs. I would spend hours trying to understand melodies and training my ears naturally. There was no formal education, no music classes, and no structured lessons. Even today, I am entirely self-taught, having learned through experimenting, making mistakes, and spending countless hours practising.
Voice & The Pursuit of Perfection
Around five to six years ago, I started taking singing seriously. At first, I wasn't good at it at all. My singing was far from what I wanted it to be. But instead of giving up, I kept singing every day. I slowly trained my own voice and tried to understand how my vocals worked. I simply kept practising, listening, failing, and trying again.
Over time, singing stopped being occasional — it became a part of who I am. Music is one of the first things I think about every day. I wake up, brush my teeth, and immediately start humming random melodies. There is something inside me that constantly pulls me towards music automatically.
But when it comes to recording, my friends call me "Mr. Perfectionist" because I always believe I can do better. Sometimes I record what is probably my best take and then delete it because I think it isn't good enough. I know perfection doesn't exist, but I constantly chase improvement because every song can always become a little better than before.
Stepping Onto the Stage
As a person, I am actually very shy and introverted. I take time to open up, and I have always been more comfortable expressing myself through music than through words. Music says many things that I cannot say myself.
One of the biggest turning points happened when I joined college, where my passion grew even stronger. In 2024, during my college freshers event, I stepped onto a stage and performed publicly for the first time. It was a duet performance and I was extremely nervous. My heart was racing, but it became one of the most memorable moments of my journey, giving me the confidence I needed.
Since then, I have participated in several college competitions. I won second prize in a solo singing competition, first prize in another solo singing competition, and recently, first prize in a duet performance with Unnati Kadam. Each stage has motivated me to keep growing.
Production & A Simple Studio
Although I primarily identify as a singer, I have explored music production, recording, mixing, and mastering over the last three to four years. I enjoy understanding how music is built from scratch. Singing remains my favourite, followed by mixing and recording, while lyric writing remains a massive challenge that I have deep respect for.
My studio setup is extremely simple. I don't have expensive equipment or a huge studio. I have a basic microphone, a guitar, a Casio synthesizer, a tripod, and a computer that often struggles to keep up with my projects.
"Great dreams do not require perfect equipment. They require consistency."
Inspirations, Support & Evolving
My biggest inspiration is Arijit Singh. I have admired him for years, and his versatility and emotion indirectly inspired me to become a singer. One day, I hope to collaborate with him or simply meet him, and I dream of performing all around the world, connecting with people regardless of language or borders.
Outside of music, I am an engineering student. Balancing academics and creativity is challenging, but music remains my constant companion. I am incredibly fortunate to have supportive people around me — my parents, my brother, my best friend, my partner, and many others who continuously encourage me.
Today, I still see myself as a beginner who has a lot to learn and create. My mission isn't simply to become famous; it is to create meaningful music, touch emotions, and share my voice with every corner of the world. Because for me, music isn't a hobby or just something I do — music is my world.
